from STUMPED to SUCCESS

Do you ever find yourself stumped?  You  have a stamp set you want to use to create a card for a particular occasion, but you just can't get over the hurdle and put ink to card stock?  That was the dilemna Teresa faced when she came to last Friday's Open Crafting Night here in my craft room.

She knew she wanted to make Christmas cards using the Wondrous Wreath set and the Wonderful Wreath framelits she had recently purchased.  But where to begin?

She identified what shades of green she has in her stash of supplies and what reds went with each.  She decided to use Old Olive ink pad  for the main wreath image and  Always Artichoke for the accent leaves, along with Real Red for berries and bow.

She wanted to keep things as simple as possible because she wants to make multiples of the design she works out.  She elected to use a card sketch for inspiration, encouraged by the knowledge that the sketch was a suggestion/model and could be adjusted to fit her sense of design and balance. (Note:   The actual sketch is for a A-2 card with round central image, but I am still learning how to do photo editing and skewed both this image and her final card).

Then she was off to the races, and by evening's end, she had completed her design.  I am so proud of her!  What a lovely card! (It looks much much prettier than my photo shows.)

FOLLOWING the TRAIL of PINK

Welcome back to my blog.

Ooo, a cute little Kraft Gift Box has landed on my page! Just perfect for some chocolate to be hiding in.  That paper bow was made with Primrose Petals card stock and finished off with a faceted button (new this year, very vintage - very trendy!) and matched up Primrose Petals stitched ribbon.  Those "spots" were made using versamark ink and the left over rubber from stamps in the Daydream Medallion set.

Hmm, wonder what's inside........ Oh , I hope it's chocolate! These boxes are food-safe, after all.

What a clever way to wrap with the ribbon, leaving the box easy to open, close, and reuse.

THINK PINK

Hi Stampers,
Welcome to my blog.
At last Friday's meeting, my downline accurately noted that I tend toward greens and blues in my card making and that pink is woefully lacking on the display boards in my craft room. Thus, they issued a challenge that I create at least one pink card - especially Melon Mambo paired with Wild Wasabi.  Wait! That's a green! 

But I am to please.  So expect to see lots of pink in varying degrees and shades this week's shares.  Today's are two examples of the same card, for the Melon Mambo/ Wild Wasabi challenge:

For both I also used the Lacy & Lovely stamp set as well as the Fancy Fan textured impressions folder and my handy-dandy Big Shot.  Both also use Subtles 3/16" brads and 3/8" Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon.  Each card evokes a different feeling. Which one do you like better?

Did you know that our Whisper White ribbons are easily dyed to match the colors of your project?  My favorite method is to load up my brayer with my ink color of choice (here Melon Mambo), and roll over and over again on my ribbon cut to size, until I get the depth of color I desire.  Really adds to the versatility and usefulness of my ribbons.

HAPPY GRAD

Hi Stampers, 

Today's card was created for my young friend Katie who was recently awarded her Bachelor of Science degree. Like yesterday's card, school colors were chosen, making this an easy card to give that personal touch.

Real Red + Basic Black = a classic color combination I never tire of.  The red card stock was texturized by running it through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder.

The flower comes from the Mixed Bunch stamp set, punched out using the Blossom punch, and popped up with dimensionals.  To make the center, I used a 3/4" Circle Punch with a dimensional.  And a Rhinestone Jewel gives the card just the right amount of sparkle.

Both the Gingham Ribbon and the Happy Grad stamp are retired products, but could easily be swapped out.

Are you wondering how the 2 color stamping was done on the sentiment?  Our Stampin' Write markers make it easy as pie!

EXTREME ...BOYS!

Hi Stampers!
 Thanks for visiting my blog today.

 For me, creating cards for boys and men is always a challenge.  

To celebrate the recent Scouting and academic achievements of 3 of our grandsons, I quickly put together  these single layer cards featuring retired ala carte stamps, Extreme Bike, Extreme    Skateboard, Extreme Guitar.

 

  Black embossed central images and brayering in a variety of ways made each card unique.  I hope the boys will really go for them.  What do you think?

DARE TO DREAM

Hi Stampers,

Sometimes we just need a quick and easy card and this one is the epitome of both.  Our Big Shot makes it easy to cut out the bird elements (Elegant Bird Die) and add texture to the  mat using any one of our fabulous embossing folders or texturz plates. By changing up the card stock and designer series paper, you can create a great card suitable for just about any occasion in just a matter of minutes.

Let's Talk Turkey

"There's always something for which to be thankful." - that's the message inside this cute little 3 x 3 card, featuring Stampin' Up!'s circle treat cup.  Sponging the feathers and feet gives them added dimension, don't you think?

Flutter by Butterfly

Hi Stampers!

I love to watch butterflies as they flutter about my wildflower garden.  They always bring a smile to my face and they dance on the wind and kiss each blossom.  Below is one of the cards my Cheaper Than Therapy club ladies will be making this evening. I really like its clean and simple design (CAS).  It's a CASE of one I saw a while back on Facebook but have lost track of the originator's name.  If I locate the name, I will repost at a later date so she gets the credit she deserves.

Though it may be hard to see in this picture, each butterfly was cut and embossed using Stampin' Up!'s esclusive Beautiful Wings embosslit, adding great dimension and texture.  The bottom edge was hand-torn to create the imagery of a horizon.  Rhinestone Jewels add just the right touch of sparkle. Inside a panel of Pool Party, with a butterfly stamped in Versamark, provides a lovely writing area for adding a personal message.

Recently I have been making Never-ending Cards - lots of fun, a whole lot easier than it looks, and a great way to use up Designer Series Paper scraps from other projects. The card features 4 pages, each opening up to the next until it returns you to the first page.

I am a big believer in using materials I have on hand to make my cards.  So there will often be a mix of old and current in what I do.  Today's card is no exception.  Change up the Designer Series Paper, colors, ribbon or image and you can have a different card for any occasion. Graduation Card

Hi Stampers!

Today's card is just so basic yet has such a WOW! factor.
Though I used a stamp set from the 2010 Occasions Mini catalog, the layout is easily adaptable. Personalize each card by changing it up to match your grad's school colors.

Even the flower is easy to make:  simply distress 4 punched flowers by crumpling each in your hand, smoothing out, then crumpling again multiple times until each flower is soft.  Stack them up; poke a hole in the middle; secure layers together using a brad.
